Eircom Quality of Service

Recent problems with Eircom broadband
The majority of the problem is with the packet loss & QoS ie: not being able to stream a reasonable amount of data.  The first symptoms I began to notice were on Friday 15th January 2010 and has continued with varying severity being at its worse after 7pm to 11pm where it sometimes becomes unusable for gaming, voice, video, and other technologies that require being able to produce a relatively stable stream of data.

Eircom have stated the exchange in North Wexford (Gorey) is due an upgrade but it's not scheduled for anytime soon 3 months was the first estimate and reduced later to 3 - 4 weeks and being the skeptic I am and the exchange not being listed on http://bit.ly/bOyR60 I'm not going to hold my breath.

The Eircom technical representative's I have been in contact with have been very helpful for what they could do, But only after I had made a formal complaint with customer services and 10 days later was my issue really looked at.  And I  was told I shouldn't be getting any packet loss and they escalated the situation to a line check. I'm not convinced a line check is necessary as it's consistent over four separate lines I have checked with different hardware some have eircom provided hardware others not (the lines in question are <2km apart).

Notes:

  • Line disconnected between 15:00 - 16:00 on Thursday 4th February 2010.
